Trekking - The Lycian Way

Tour map

The Lycian Way is a 500km long footpath stretching from Fethiye to Antalya. The Lycian Road is described in historical documents as a transportation system of paths connecting the 45 known city-states of ancient Lycia. This walk combines the best of Turkey's unspoiled mountain scenery, with the chance to explore little-visited ancient ruins along the way. The Taurus Mountains offer soaring limestone peaks, sheer cliffs, deep valleys, secluded coves, a rich flora and fauna and breathtaking panorama of the pine forests meeting the sea!

This tour can be organised tailored only, 1 to 10 days. Rates deped on section you would like to do and number of days. Please contact us to get further help.

                                                     - Sunday Times

Graded medium to hard, this route is not level walking, but has many ascents and descents, veering towards and away from the sea. Starting in Fethiye the path becomes more difficult as it progresses.

The path is way-marked to French ‘Grande Randonnée’ standards and there is a guidebook available, so navigation should not be too difficult, but this is an innovative path and some sections are remote.

Highlights of the Lycian Way include:
- Spectacular walks on the slopes of Babadag, beneath the flight path of the paragliders.
- Stunning descent to the small village of Faralya, above the cliffs of Butterfly Valley.
- The white sands of the longest beach in Turkey, Patara beach (18km).
- Spectacular views over the coast from above Kas and Kalkan.
- The castle, harbour and sunken ruins at Ucagiz.
- The Church of the Angel Gabriel in the hills above Myra.
- A fabulous ridge top walk to Finike.
- Staying at the lighthouse at Cape Gelidonia.
- Climbing Mount Olympos (2388m).
- Splashing in the canyon at Goynuk.
- And the ancient ruins of hidden Lycian cities, the friendliness of the villagers, the quaint old houses in deserted corners, the deep forests and white rocks, and the blue Mediterranean.

Although it takes over forty days to complete the entire route, walkers can choose much shorter sections. Pensions and hotels can be found along the trail, but in isolated areas you must rely on village houses or camping.

So depending on your itinerary, we at Alaturka & Fethiye Guesthouse are a fantastic starting or finishing point and can offer help with reserving accommodation along your route and general information.
