Located on the Mediterranean coast Kalkan averages 300 days of sunshine a year. Being the only safe harbour between Fethiye and Kas, Kalkan's main source of income is tourism, the town hosts a large British Expat community and luxurious villas with private pools fill the hillside town. Kalkan is also a popular stopping point on Blue Cruises. Traditional Turkish Gulet boats dock in the harbour for an hour or two while passengers explore and shop, before continuing their voyage towards Kekova or Fethiye. Once upon a time, Kalkan was a budding Greek fishing village, it became known famous for its whitewashed houses on the small hilltop overlooking the bay, the picturesque marina still reflects a little of the charm of the old village.

Kalkan has an abundance of Hotels and Guesthouses and countless top-quality restaurants, serving delicious Mediterranean dishes as well as international cuisine. Bars came alive in the evening when the heat of the day has faded and a pleasant atmosphere hovers over the town. Kalkan is well connected by bus to neighbouring towns and villages, it is also a fantastic launching pad for exploring the area and offers a variety of water sports.

Kaputas Beach is located only 7 kilometres from Kalkan, where a narrow valley runs below steep cliffs and thick forests join to meet the shore. A small highway bridge crosses the gorge and below it lays a quaint cove and sandy beach, only accessible by a rocky flight of stairs. The beach is popular for its untouched beauty.  There are few services here but in high season you may find pop-up kiosks and vendors selling food and refreshments.
