Today you will begin your day by taking a flight from Istanbul to the Ephesus region.

When you arrive, you will begin your day with a tour of Ephesus. Entering the city there are many ruined buildings, however, at the entrance point one stands out the harbour. Today the harbour no longer has any water dues to the coastline having moved, when the city was at its most prosperous the harbour would have been a busy place full or goods coming and going and the sounds of trade. Inside the city, a wide ‘Marble Street’ offers a way to wander through and see the different buildings including the Library of Celsus. The library once held thousands of scrolls and books, today the building only has the facade which was built during the first excavations.

Heading on to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world its grandeur was once breathtaking and described as second only to Mount Olympos in beauty. Today only the foundations remain where it was built, natural disaster and armies brought the temple to ruin.

After the grand temple to the gods, you will head to the Humble Home of the Virgin Mary. This cottage is found in the hills, in a quiet place. The building has almost no extravagance with a food preparation room, a living and sleepy area and a small altar for prayer. The one luxury the home had was its own well close by for water.

Isa Bey Mosque is a stunning ancient mosque, designed and built in the Selcuk era. The mosque was designed for a local leader by the master builder Ali. The scripture above the crown style doors open the mosque up to the rest where Ottoman influences are found.

Overnight in Selcuk or Kusadasi.

Today you will be exploring the natural wonder of Pamukkale and visit the ancient Hierapolis.

You will begin your day with travel to Pamukkale. This journey will take approximately 3hours where you will travel through the varied countryside. When you arrive you will enjoy a Turkish buffet lunch.

Pamukkale is a beautiful natural rock formation that was created as mineral-rich spring water gently flows out of the ground, as the water makes it was down the rock it leaves behind a travertine residue which builds up over the generations. Today the white travertine rock pools are said to look like fluffy cotton which is how the area gained its name Pamukkale or 'Cotton Castle’.

Ancient Hierapolis is a ruined city that is found close to the Pamukkale stepped pools. This city was popular across the region for scholarly and medical pursuits. The library here was said to have help thousands of scrolls, books and other types of literature. The city was popular with visitors who were suffering from illnesses, this is due to the closeness of the Pamukkale as the waters were considered to be healing. While some would have healed by the cleanliness and rest some were not able to be cured as easily. The necropolis outside the main city was the place for those who died to be buried, with simple graves for the common people but ornate sarcophagi or mausoleums.
