Istanbul To Mount Ararat And Ani 3 Day Tour

Tour map

Discover the mystical secrets of eastern Turkey with this 3 day tour. Visit the reputed final resting place of Noah's Ark at the sacred Mount Ararat, a grandiose palace with a spectacular view, and the ruins of one of the most glorious Armenian cities at Ani.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Istanbul (or Izmir) and transferred to the airport for your flight to Dogubeyazit.

On arrival in Dogubeyazit, you will check into your hotel.

Overnight Dogubeyazit.

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Dogubeyazit.

Our first stop is the Ishak Pasha Palace just outside town. Constructed in the 1600s with a blend of Ottoman, Persian and Armenian architectural styles, the palace offers a dazzling view over Dogubeyazit and features large courtyards, dungeons, a mausoleum, a mosque and a central heating system.

After leaving the palace, we will head towards the site where Noah's Ark reputedly ran aground - a pilgrimage site for many. We look inside the visitor centre for theories on how the boat, which is mentioned in both the Bible and the Quran, may have ended up here.

After this we head towards the Iranian border to see a huge, mysterious hole in the ground that is believed to be caused by a meteor impact.

In the afternoon, we return to your hotel in Dogubeyazit.

Overnight Dogubeyazit.

Pick up from your hotel in Dogubeyazit.

We will drive towards Kars.

From Kars, we head west towards the ruins of Ani, one of the great Armenian cities of eastern Turkey. Once a thriving city at the crossroads of several trade routes, Mongol raids and earthquakes robbed Ani of its glory, but the impressive fortified walls still remain, as well as numerous churches, mosques and caravan serays.

In the afternoon, we return to Kars and visit Kars Citadel, built in 1153, destroyed by the Mongols, and rebuilt in 1579. Situated on the side of a hill, it offers spectacular views over the city.

We will then visit Armenian Church of Apostles, an excellent example of the typical Armenian churches of the 10th Century. Converted to a mosque by the Ottomans in 1579, it later became a Russian church, but since 1998 has become a mosque again, known as Kethuda Mosque.

In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Istanbul (or Izmir). This is the end of the tour. If you have any enquiries about further tours or travel in Turkey, we're happy to help!
