Today you will begin by heading to the ancient site of GobekliTepe. As the ruins have been excavated they have found building parts and carvings dating back as far as 12,000 years ago which makes this temple one of the oldest on earth, predating the Pyramids and Stonehenge. Here you will receive a guided tour giving information about the process and what was found.

Upon returning to Sanliurfa you will visit the Archaeology and Mosaic Museum, offering a collection of unique items ranging from Assyrian, Babylonian, Hittite, Neolithic and Bronze Age. Here you will see tools, clothes, items and sculptures from GobekliTepe as well as other digs.

After your time at the museum learning about the history of the region, you will head to Abrahams Pool. This unusual structure with a large pool filled with fish is said to have come from the time of the Prophet Abraham. The story says that Abraham was to be thrown into a large fire pit by the king, as he was thrown the flames turned to water and the ashen logs became the first fish to swim here. Close to this now sacred pool is the birthplace of Abraham, found inside a cave you can witness where he was born and spent a small portion of his life.

Today you will visit Harran City and its wonderful historical area.

Harran City is one of the world’s oldest cities. Harran was home to the Prophet Abraham, after being born in the cave he made his life in Here. In the bible his home is said to be in ‘Haran’ which historians have said is the city you will visit. Just outside the modern town of Harran, there is a type of building style that offers a cool interior while is using minimalistic materials. These smooth cone-shaped roofs use a straw-based material; however, these houses differ from those found in other places as they require no wood to maintain their shape, which is often compared to a beehive.

During your time in Harran, you will head to the city castle, Harran Kalesi, where you can explore the walls and enjoy the wonderful views of the region from the various points of the ancient fortifications.

Heading out of Harran you will visit Sogmatar. An ancient pagan city that maintained their worship of their gods while also welcome people from other faiths. Moses became a resident after the town while still following Christian beliefs. The Grand Mosque is another ancient place of worship, one of the oldest in the region it was built between 744-750 and was rediscovered in 1983.

Today you will enjoy time exploring this historic filled region.

You begin your day at the Bald Ibis Sanctuary. This protected land is designed to allow for these ancient bird’s numbers to rebuild their numbers, today the sanctuary has over 100 breeding pairs which have brought back their dwindling numbers. After your time viewing these ancient birds you head to the Turkish town of Halfeti, this ancient feeling town offers amazing views over the lake. This wonderful town is partially flooded, while here you will view the tops of buildings including the minaret of an old mosque still stand proud from in the water.

Enjoy a Traditional Turkish lunch. This afternoon you will take a boat tour departing for Rumkale, cruise to the ancient castle city of Hromla. Now surrounded by water following the flooding that a dam was created in the region. Originally the region was strategic for the Assyrian culture long before the region was flooded. The city here is sacred with a unique history as the new testament was copied here with some of these hidden within the castle walls. The nearby church is devoted to Saint Nerse, after his time serving in the role of Patriarch during the 12th century for the Armenian People.
