Athens

Athens is the oldest city in Europe with its history dating back as far as 11000 BCE. It is often known as the birthplace of Democracy. Plato’s Academy is located in Athens, where Aristotle was a student. If you are heading to Athens you must not miss the Acropolis of Athens built-in 500 BCE and home of many interesting ancient ruins and building including the famous Parthenon. The Parthenon was constructed around 447 BCE when the Athenian Empire was most powerful. It was dedicated to the Grecian goddess Athena who is the virgin patron of wisdom, the arts, justice, skill, industry and war. Other places of interest are the Temple of Zeus and the Agora. The Temple of Zeus was constructed in the 6th century BCE in honour of the Greek god Zeus who is the god of the sky and is the ruler of 11 other gods. In ancient times the core of Athens was known as the Agora. Around 3000 BCE it was a burial area, however, later it became the focal point of administrative, commercial, social and political activity. No matter if you like ancient history or you are more interested in modern arts, the city of Athens accommodates it all.
