CANAKKALE

Canakkale, like Istanbul has territory in both the Europe and Asia.  It is a town and seaport, located on the narrowest point of the southern coast of the Dardanelles.  The city has been host to many civilisations; the earliest settlements are thought to be 4000BC.  However Çanakkale’s real history began with Troy between the years 3000 – 2000 BC and Gallipoli during World War I.

Eceabat, formally known as Maydos is located in the Canakkale district, on the east shore of the Gallipoli Peninsula on the Dardanelles Strait.  It is a small relaxed waterfront town, with easy access to Gallipoli.



GALLIPOLI
Gallipoli derives its name from the Greek word Kallipolis, meaning ‘Beautiful City’.  In the Byzantine Era, the city became heavily fortified and important military warehouses were set up in exchange for grains and wine.  In 1304 the Byzantines briefly lost control of the city.....more info

TROY
Troy is a city which was often thought to be a myth, existing over 4000 years ago.  It was first discovered in the 19th century and is known as Truva in Turkish and is recognised as a World Heritage Site.....more info 

ASSOS
Assos or Behramkale is a small town on the Aegean-coast, founded from 900 – 1000 BC.  When the settlers came, they built a temple on top of the crag.  From this point many parts of the surrounding areas could be seen.  In 348 BC Aristotle moved to Assos and married.....more info

GOKCEADA
Gokçeada is the largest island of Turkey and is located in the Northern Aegean Sea.  Gokçeada played an important role in the Gallipoli campaign.....more info

BOZCAADA
Bozcaada is a quaint little town, which often leave people wishing they could stay longer.  It is the second of only two inhabited islands of Turkey, in the Aegean Sea.  This small town is well known for its wines, huge medieval fortress and old houses, with cobble stone streets.....more info
